Maha Nyasam

This is the mantra chanted by purohits during elaborate rituals honoring Lord Shiva.  Before performing worship with the Rudra Hymn from the Veda, the Shakti of Lord Shiva is installed into the various parts of the body using these mantras.  The highest form of worship of Lord Shiva is the Rudra Japam including MahaNyasam.  For simpler rituals only the Laghu Nyasam is used (which is at the end of the Maha Nyasam).  These mantras are some of the most powerful in the Vedas.  We must be very pure to connect with Lord Shiva / Rudra who destroys the ego and all that is impure with in us before he lifts us to peace and transcendent being.
