The full moon is sacred time to the Divine Mother. We worship her at this sacred time for liberation from all sorts of troubles, for success and fulfillment in worldly endeavors and for spiritual realization. Our monthly Purnima (Full Moon) Puja will be conducted, in Schuyler Virginia. This service concludes with anna danam (a vegetarian meal). Full event schedule below (when the Puja falls on a business week night we perform an abbreviated ceremony beginning at 7pm and ending around 9pm to accommodate guests and volunteers work schedules).

Full Moon Puja Schedule
1) Vighneśvara pūjām - Before any puja ceremony, prayers are offered to Lord Ganapati to remove obstacles and pray for successful completion of the puja. Ganesha is said to sit at the muladhara cakra at the base of the spine and help us connect with the other deities relating to the higher cakras.
2) Kumbha sthāpanam - Placement of the sacred water pot. A Kumbha (water pot) topped with coconut is sanctified and the Goddess invoked with Veda mantras. 3) śrī cakra navāvaraṇa pūjām - The navavarana puja of the shree yantra is a tantric ritual of worship for the Goddess. 3a) śrī kramam - Various nyasas and other rituals are performed to purify the body of the pujari making the offering. Various rituals are performed to purify and consecrate water and other offerings also. 3b) Lalitā kramam - 108 Goddesses are invoked and worshipped with flowers and water in the various portions of the shree yantra where they dwell. 4) ṣoḍaśa dravya abhiśekam - Abhishekam is ritual bathing for purification and energization of the yantra. The ritual has the same effect for those who witness it. We will be offering 16 dravya (liquid substances). Shodasha (16) is a number sacred to the Goddess Shodashi who dwells in the yantra. The full Moon is the 16th lunar phase. 5) Lalitā sahasranāmastotram - Recitation of the hymn of 1,000 names of the Divine mother. This recitation is said to remove all sorts of difficulties and to bestow worldly benefits of all kinds as well as liberation. 6) Arcanam - Offering of the 108 names of Goddess Shakambhari along with offering of incense, food, and light. 7) Mantra puṣpāṅjalim - Reverent prayer offering flowers, symbolic of the flowering of spiritual consciousness. This offering is made along with the mantra pushpam hymn from the Taittiriya Aranyaka. 8) Veda pārāyaṇam - An offering of recitations from each of the four Vedas. 9) āśīrvādam - Blessings to all present 10) Annadānam - A South Indian style, vegetarian meal will be offered to all present. |
