 Yoga

The Vedic Science of Self Mastery
Picture
Yoga is the mystical science of uniting the soul with it latent inner nature, which is Divine.  Yoga is practiced by gaining control over the instinctive patterns of the mind.  It is the innate instinct of the mind to judge, attach, and attempt to control the thoughts, feelings, and impression which flow through awareness.  Yoga is the practice of restraining these instincts of the mind so that its true super-conscious nature may be activated.  For the Yogi, awareness flows unhindered through the different realms of awareness, never getting stuck in one thought or feeling but appreciating the beauty of each new impression.

The practice of Yoga helps to awaken super-conscious capacities of the brain which are latent for most. This is not intellect, but pure awareness which is beyond logical thought.  Yoga is the practice of activating the higher potential of human consciousness.  Most people remain in the conscious areas of intellectual thoughts and feelings (emotions).  Experiencing the world only through the conscious mind, they remain unaware of the many subconscious patterns which dictate their beliefs, thoughts, and actions.  They have tapped into only the most superficial level of the mind.  These people vehemently defend the concept of free-will but their entire existence is dictated by the unseen patterns of the sub-conscious mind.  As the reflexes of the body will pull the hand away from a burning fire, the instincts of the instinctive mind retract from the thoughts and feelings of the subconscious due to various judgments, aversions, attachments, and desires.  Consequently the thoughts and feelings which motivate the actions and beliefs are unknown.

Beyond and within the subconscious mind lays the super-conscious mind, which is beyond judgment, aversion, attachment, and desire.  The super-conscious mind dwells in eternal peace.  It is beyond thought and feeling, and it is beyond space and time.  It holds all knowledge and power.  Activating the super-conscious level of the mind is the goal of Yoga.

Soma Matha teaches traditional Yoga for the spiritual purpose of Self-Realization. The Soma Matha Center will offer daily spiritually-based Yoga classes at an affordable cost.
