Kalamegha is called the king of bitters.  It is considered one of the best herbs in Ayurveda for treating high pitta and conditions of the liver.  It is cold in energy and bitter to the taste.  It is useful for all conditions of the liver and for reducing fever and infections.  It may be helpful to treat malabsorption, especially in cases where there is diarrhea (as in grahani roga), or to remove parasites or bacterias from the digestive tract.  It is good at removing toxins from the body in general, and increases immunity.  For parasites, it may be combined with ginger, vidanga, nirgundi, and bibhitaki.  It may be helpful in treating skin conditions, acne, and toxic blood, for which it combines well with turmeric and triphala.  It has been used recently to treat Lyme disease, for which it can be combined with ashwagandha, gokshura, and nirgundi.  For fevers, it may be combined with lemon grass, ginger (1/4th part) and mint.  For urinary infections it may be taken with coriander, gokshura, guduchi, and bala.  For malabsorption it combines well with cardamom, nutmeg, mushta, and cinnamon.
