Mahalaya Paksha Pitri Puja
The Pitri Paksha falls this year between Sept 28th and Oct. 12th. This 15 days is traditionally set aside for worship of the ancestors, and no auspicious pujas are performed during this time. Prayers offered for the ancestors at this time are extremely effective. If a person does not perform daily or monthly tarpanam for the pitris (ancestors), they should at least offer prayers for their dead relatives at this time. These prayers help to remove family karmas and genetic conditions which otherwise bind a person's soul to the fate of suffering for the actions of the ancestors. We will be making offerings here on Amavasya (new moon) day and encourage people to sponsor the pujas on behalf of their relatives.
